South Miami is an energetic city bordering the main campus of the University of Miami. The city features a walkable historic downtown district with a diverse dining scene and peaceful tree-lined residential neighborhoods. South Miami is located around a 15 minutes’ drive southeast of Downtown Miami and is just a few minutes from Biscayne Bay.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

South Miami’s historic downtown area features many blocks of diverse shopping and dining options. The Shops at Sunset Place is an open-air shopping center in the heart of Downtown South Miami. Retailers here include Aeropostale, Aldo, Armani Exchange, Banana Republic, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, Pacific Sunwear, Steps New York, and Victoria’s Secret. Sunset Place also offers many entertainment options—catch all of the latest releases at the 24-screen AMC movie theater, enjoy bowling alongside sushi and cocktails at the swanky Splitsville bowling center, and play arcade games and watch big-screen sports alongside a full bar and pub grub at GameTime Miami. South Miami’s dynamic dining scene includes many international eateries. Old Lisbon is a chic contemporary restaurant serving seafood-focused Portuguese cuisine. Sano Food has a broad menu of nutrition-conscious breakfast and lunch plates. Casa Cuba serves a wide variety of delicious Cuban specialties, including classic Cuban sandwiches and dishes made with Gulf shrimp and Florida lobster. This lively spot also serves freshly- squeezed juices, shakes, and sangria and offers indoor and outdoor seating with regular live music. Deli Lane Café & Sunset Tavern is a hit with the college crowd for their diner-style eats and lively sports bar atmosphere. Pub 52 offers a chic twist on the classic sports bar with inventive pub eats, happy hour cocktails, and live music performances.

Things to Do

There are several parks in South Miami offering a wide variety of sports and recreational facilities. Palmer Park extends over 8.5 acres with five fields for baseball and softball, two batting cages, and a multi-purpose playing field. 3.4-acre Murray Park has two basketball courts, youth and t-ball fields, a playground, and lots of picnic tables and charcoal grills. Fuchs Park features a sand volleyball court, a scenic pond that attracts many water birds, and a playground. Amenities at Dante Fascell Park include six clay tennis courts, a pro beach volleyball court, handball courts, and a gated playground area with a tot lot.
