This census-designated place is bordered by the commercial hub of Dadeland to the south, the suburban CDPs of Sunset, Olympia Heights, and Coral Terrace to the west and north, and the city of South Miami to the east. Glenvar Heights is directly adjacent to the sprawling green space and attractions of Tropical Park and lots of retail and restaurants at Dadeland Mall.
Development of Glenvar Heights began in 1945, and the community’s real estate mix features large single-family homes of diverse styles from different time periods. Glenvar Heights’ spacious homes typically sit on half-acre lots.

Glenvar Heights is an upper-middle-income neighborhood with a diverse population. More than 62% of Glenvar Heights residents are of Cuban heritage, and over 61% were born in another country. Many residents work in professional roles and management positions, and most commute into other Miami areas for work by car. Public transportation is also available with the Miami Metrorail Dadeland North station on Glenvar Heights’ southern boundary.

Along Glenvar Heights’ northwestern boundary, sprawling
Tropical Park spans 275 acres and attracts around 1.5 million visitors every year. This park contains many amenities and sports facilities, including
Tropical Park Stadium, home of soccer teams Miami Dade FC and FC Miami City, as well as numerous high school football teams and various prestigious track and field meets.
The Ronald Reagan Equestrian Center at Tropical Park hosts more than 30 horse shows every year. Between early November and January,
Santa’s Enchanted Forest illuminates Tropical Park with more than six million lights alongside over 100 carnival rides and attractions as well as a gigantic Christmas tree. Tropical Park also has a boxing center and a tennis center with 12 lighted courts. Just north of Glenvar Heights, 65-acre
A.D. Barnes Park features oak and pinewood forests and a public swimming pool.
